The best part about learning how to shop smart at Crate and Barrel is that the rules also apply to its sister store, CB2. The brand may put a focus on high-quality products over frequent sales, but you’ll still find strategies for saving and spending with this quick guide.

1
Sales and Promotions

Like many stores, Crate and Barrel and CB2 both launch sales around key points in the year, according to a brand spokesperson. This includes holidays and seasonal changes: The spring cleaning event came with a 20 percent off code available right on the homepage. The top left corner of the site is where you’ll find contests for major gift cards in exchange for completing a short survey, and throughout the year, you’ll also see promotions for specific items. Want to save now? Sign up for emails and get a code for 10 percent off.

2
The Credit Card

The Crate and Barrel Rewards Program allows its cardholders to earn 10 percent back in Reward Dollars on purchases from Crate and Barrel or CB2. You’ll also earn 2 percent back in Reward Dollars on grocery store purchases and 1 percent back in Reward Dollars anywhere else Mastercard is accepted. Visit the Crate and Barrel credit card page for more details. Occasionally, the site will also award double rewards points on store purchases during limited promotions.

3
Returns and Exchanges

For smaller items brought to stores, Crate and Barrel accepts returns and exchanges within 90 days of purchase with a receipt or other proof of purchase. For larger items such as rugs or furniture, Crate and Barrel accepts returns within 30 days. Their online return feature makes it easy and convenient to return any items purchased online, but you will have to pay for the return label from FedEx. For their full return policy, visit the site.

4
Price Matching

Like some major box stores, Crate and Barrel guarantees the best price. Should you find a lower price tag on an identical, name-brand item, the store will match that price at the time of your purchase. Shop around and be prepared to show proof of a lower price with a competing brand.

5
Design Services

Need help furnishing your living room or home office? What about your new nursery? The Crate Design Studio offers interior design services to help you revamp your home. You can ask at a local store or use the site’s DIY digital design tools.

The store also offers premium design services, where a staff member draws up a 3D rendering of your current space so you can see how new furniture would fit before you buy. With that, you’ll also get a 2D floor plan with dimensions for each piece to make sure everything fits in your home.

Looking for help, but not ready to pay for the expertise? The store also offers complimentary design services for your new layout based on photos of the current placement of furniture in your home. They’ll even help you choose color palettes and build a personalized digital mood board.

6
Product Assembly

If your new bed frame or filing cabinet requires assembly, you can ditch the instructions. Shoppers can have a product shipped to their home and assembled by trained staff for a flat price. The service is possible through a new partnership with Handy, a platform for booking home services. The staff will also install window treatments and lighting or hang wall décor. The service is available seven days a week, from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m., and is currently offered at 90 Crate and Barrel and CB2 locations across the country.

7
Free Shipping

More than 2,000 items currently ship free. If you happen to order a large piece of furniture which requires a shipping fee, you might as well add to the order—Crate and Barrel charges a flat fee for shipping any number of furniture pieces in a single order. And if you’re buying for the happy couple through their wedding registry, all items that cost more than $99 also ship free.

8
Gift Cards

Good news—if for some reason you haven’t managed to spend your Crate and Barrel gift card, there’s no rush, as gift cards never expire.
